ServiceNet’s Skillbuilders Makerspace+ Partners with EasterSeals to Assist with Adaptive Toy Drive
ServiceNet’s Skillbuilders Makerspace+ program recently partnered with EasterSeals to help build adaptive switches for their upcoming adaptive toy drive. Adaptive toys can use switches or other modifications to ensure toys are accessible for children with disabilities, allowing all children to fully enjoy and benefit from play.
Skillbuilders Makerspace+ is a pre-vocational day program located in Chicopee, where individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities can engage in art, technology, and craft-making. Under the guidance of an instructor, participants helped to assemble the adaptive switches and learned essential skills like soldering, testing the switches, using various tools, and following safety procedures.
“This adaptive toy drive gives our members a chance to develop practical skills while contributing to a meaningful cause,” said Tiffany Carter, Program Director for Skillbuilders. “We’re proud to be involved in a project that both empowers our participants and supports children with disabilities in a tangible way.”
For this initiative, the program produced 25 adaptive switches and has plans to do more.
