Group Therapy Information for Clients and Referring Providers

Research has shown that group therapy may often be the most effective treatment, offering participants the chance to learn from others in similar situations.

ServiceNet offers a variety of groups, including those listed here. Please speak with your therapist about which option/s may be right for you.

Referring providers, please direct questions about group therapies to our Director of Outpatient Services at 413-587-7579.

DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOR THERAPY (DBT) FOR ADULTS & ADOLESCENTS

This full-protocol therapy includes skills groups, weekly individual therapy, family therapy (in the adolescent program), medication evaluation and follow-up, and telephone coaching between sessions. DBT is considered a higher level of care, and clients must meet certain guidelines to be admitted.

WISE MIND GROUPS

FOR ADULTS, ADOLESCENTS, AND EMERGING ADULTS (AGE 18-24)

These groups focus on teaching Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, walking the middle path, and interpersonal effectiveness.

SKILLFUL RECOVERY GROUP

Based on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), this group offers a combination of skill-building and processing to help participants make and sustain the changes needed to get and stay clean/sober.

ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT THERAPY (ACT)

The aim of ACT is to maximize human potential for a meaningful life. This is done through mindfulness practice, clarifying values, and increasing motivation for action. The ACT group is ongoing and provides opportunity for connection, psychoeducation, and opportunities to practice skills that align with identified values.

BURIED IN TREASURES

This 16-week group helps people who have too much stuff better understand what has led to the clutter in their life, uncover their beliefs and attachments to belongings, and begin to develop the skills to decrease acquisition and increase their ability to discard and organize their belongings.

MINDFULNESS-INTEGRATED COGNITIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY (Mi-CBT)

This 8-week group teaches Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) principles that can be used to change an individual’s process of thinking: reducing depression by altering habitual and unhelpful feelings and behaviors.

Interactive Behavioral Therapy (IBT)

Participants build their listening skills and connection to others through psychodrama techniques. Psychodrama is based on interactive role play; it gives participants the chance to become more conscious of the roles they and others typically play in life, and to reflect on that experience.

Seeking Safety

This group is for people with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and substance use issues. It offers coping skills for participants to use in managing their often-overwhelming impulses and emotions.
